ART GALLERY
Outside of work, I enjoy artistic endeavors like pottery and product design. I recently completed a month-long pottery residency, and will soon enter a selective advanced artists course in Himachal, India. I also enjoyed building provocative design artifacts in graduate school that helped me express myself, and experiment through social interactions.
The passing of time
At a pottery residency in a remote village in Andhra Pradesh, India, my friends and I constantly wondered what day of the week it was. Having lost track, we began the tradition of looking at the moon to tell how far along we were, and in which cycle since.
This collection was inspired by that practice. It imitates the cycle of the moon from left to right- a no-moon night, a small moon night, half-moon night, almost, and full moon night.
I’m on my period
A wearable piece of jewelry synched with the female user's body, that lights up to indicate they’re on their period. This was a provocative experience designed to evoke a feeling of pride, instead of shame, for females on their period. This led to the sharing of many, many first-time period stories between students, faculty, staff, and visitors, as well as curious great questions from non-female members of an empathetic community.

Tea-pottery
At the end of my pottery residency, I was excited to have built my first teapot. This was an experimental piece with carvings inspired by my recent visits to the old forts and havelis of Mandawa, Gwalior, Jhansi, and Orchha.
I enjoyed making a rather British tea accessory decorated with Indian motifs from the time of the British raj.
